Construction on the Thunderbird Treatment Center is ahead of schedule. Originally planned to open at the end of 2026, construction will now be completed by July and SIHB will open its doors to patients later this summer. (Please check our website: we will announce when intake begins as soon as possible.)
“Our vision for Thunderbird as a state-of-the-art, cultural healing space is finally becoming a reality,” said Esther Lucero (Diné), president and CEO of SIHB. “I think people are going to be stunned by its beauty and what it represents for our community’s future. We couldn’t be more excited to open our doors and begin serving the community later this summer.”

To celebrate the opening, SIHB will host public tours between June 27 and July 9. Vashon residents and anyone interested in learning more about TTC are welcome to register. One hundred spaces per day will be available on these dates:
- June 27
- June 29
- June 30
- July 6
- July 9
Registration details will be shared soon; please check our website and social media for RSVP information.
Following the public tours and prior to the arrival of residents, SIHB will host a cultural ceremony with tribal and cultural leaders for a traditional blessing of the Center.
Seattle Indian Health Board is also actively hiring for positions at TTC in health and human services, administration, and more. Two recent job fairs on Vashon welcomed more than 100 people interested in learning about these opportunities. Visit our Careers page and search for “Thunderbird Treatment Center positions” to learn more about current opportunities.
When full operational, the residential treatment center will have 92 beds — increasing inpatient beds in King County by 51%. The Center will provide a 45-day intensive inpatient treatment program that blends innovative therapies with personalized treatment plans, tailored to each individual’s unique needs and goals. Cultural spaces will provide residents with opportunities to participate in traditional healing practices.
The opening of TTC is a pivotal moment in SIHB’s long history. We extend deep gratitude to the donors, partners, and supporters whose commitment and generosity made this project possible. Their support has helped bring TTC to life as a place of healing and hope for our community.
