Adeline Garcia Community Service Awards: What a day!

We’re still floating on good vibes, after a marvelous time at the Adeline Garcia Community Service Awards! Congratulations once again to this year’s awardees: Chairwoman Teri Gobin (Tulalip), Rep. Chris Stearns (Navajo), JD, and Brad Finegood, MA, LMHC.

Our community service awards honor those who have had a significant impact on urban Native well-being in the Seattle area. This year’s awardees were chosen for their dedication to reducing the impact of substance use disorder on the community, so Native people continue to thrive on Native land. We were also privileged to host violinist Swil Kanim (Lummi Nation) as part of the event’s entertainment. Below are the snapshots; we hope these photos convey the spirit of the day!

About Adeline Garcia

The awards are named in memory of Adeline Skultka Garcia (Haida, Double Fin Killer Whale Clan), a pioneer in urban Indian social causes. She co-founded the American Indian Women’s Service League. Adeline also served on our Board of Directors, both as president and member.

Proceeds from the day’s event will support the re-establishment of Thunderbird Treatment Center as a new 92-bed residential treatment facility in the Seattle area, with capacity to serve pregnant and parenting relatives. In addition, these contributions will support the expansion of outpatient services at our three main clinics for relatives seeking behavioral health and substance use recovery.
