Shelter from the storm

The continued severe cold weather affects us all. However, we’re especially concerned about our relatives in and near Pioneer Square as a significant number of them are experiencing homelessness. With their wellbeing in mind, we’d like to highlight some of the cold-weather shelters currently in operation closest to our clinic.


This information comes from the King County Regional Homeless Authority (KCRHA), and is valid until December 22. Note that the available shelters may vary from week to week.

Day centers for adults

  • Chief Seattle Club Day Center, 410 2nd Ave. Ext. S., Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Salvation Army Jefferson Day Center, 4th & Jefferson, daily, between 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Compass Day Center, 210 Alaskan Way S., Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Day centers for women and children

  • Mary’s Place: 1830 Ninth Ave., Monday – Friday, from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (women or women with children only)
  • YouthCare Orion Center: 1828 Yale Ave., Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (youth ages 12 to 24 only)

Overnight shelter for adults

  • Compass Housing Alliance: 210 Alaskan Way S., 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 a.m.
