SIHB is taking steps to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19)

COVID-19 Alert

Seattle Indian Health Board is encouraging anyone experiencing symptoms  (cough, fever, or other respiratory problems)—or those who think they have been exposed to COVID-19—to  call  us  first  at (206) 324-9360  to discuss their condition  before  visiting our clinic.

Telehealth Services

Many of our services are now available over the phone.
Call us at (206) 324-9360 to get started and speak with our licensed medical, dental, behavioral health, and substance use disorder professionals.

We encourage anyone experiencing symptoms to call prior to physically visiting a clinic.

If you are experiencing symptoms (cough, fever, or other respiratory problems) or think you have been exposed to COVID-19, contact King County Public Health at (206) 477-3977 to speak with someone to determine if you need to be seen.

SIHB is also providing over-the-phone nurse consultations for our patients at (206) 324-9360 to offer recommendations and determine if they need to be seen.

SIHB is screening patients for the coronavirus (COVID-19) at the door.

Because SIHB’s main goal is to prevent the virus from spreading, we are taking precautions with all relatives walking through our doors. We are screening all relatives to learn about any symptoms and risks of exposure they may have.

SIHB offers COVID-19 tests by appointment.

If you have any concerns or symptoms and you want to get tested, call us at (206) 324-9360. Symptoms include, but are not limited to, fever, cough, or shortness of breath—even a scratchy throat or runny nose.

If you are not experiencing symptoms and need a COVID-19 test for work, school, surgery, and/or travel, please call to schedule an appointment so we can make sure you’ll get the results when you need them.

Testing is open to all by appointment. We’re working to ensure all of our relatives have the ability to be diagnosed and treated appropriately.

We strongly encourage social distancing and limiting contact with others.

SIHB supports public health recommendations. According to the WA Department of Health, by practicing and encouraging social distancing you can reduce how big the outbreak can get. It is recommended that you stay at least six feet away from each other, especially if someone may be sick. Coughs and sneezes can travel this distance, and their droplets may contain a virus.

The same good health habits that prevent other viruses like the flu also prevent coronavirus (COVID-19) spread and decrease the risk of getting sick.

  • Stay home when you’re sick.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a sleeve or a tissue.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water. Soap and water is most effective, but if they aren’t available use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects (like doorknobs and light switches). Regular household cleaners are effective.
  • Get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids, eat healthy foods, and manage your stress to keep your immunity strong.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick. If you are more vulnerable (aged 65 or older, have a chronic health condition), consider reducing your exposure by avoiding large, crowded situations.

Tips when seeking medical evaluation and advice.

  1. Do not go to the emergency room unless essential. Emergency rooms need to be able to serve those with the most critical needs. If you have symptoms like cough, fever, or other respiratory problems, contact your regular doctor first.
  2. If you’re over 60 or you have underlying conditions like diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, and weakened immune system, come up with a plan with your doctor to identify your health risks for coronavirus (COVID-19) and how to manage symptoms. Contact your doctor right away if you do have symptoms.

SIHB has decided to cancel or postpone many of our upcoming events and classes.

Due to recent recommendations by government officials, SIHB has decided to cancel or postpone some of our upcoming events and classes. As a health clinic, we are committed to minimizing the spread of the virus. We are also committed to all our programs, classes, and events, and understand their importance, so we will continue to update the community about when we will be able to re-open these services.

See a list of cancelled/postponed classes and events here.

Indigenous Resilience in Action

Seattle Indian Health Board celebrated our 50th anniversary doing what we do best—mobilizing to address the needs of our relatives. As our world continues to be shaken by the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain unwavering in our pursuit of Indigenous health equity for our community locally and nationally—especially our Elders and our youth.

We continue to provide a safe cultural space for our relatives as we provide culturally attuned healthcare, Traditional Indian Medicine, rental assistance, nutrition services, and beyond. Nationally, we are shaping the dialogue on Indigenous health equity through policy, data, evaluation, and research services by and for Indigenous communities.

With your help, we continue to serve our community today and chart a path to long-term and sustainable growth that meets the needs of generations to come.
