In honor of the World Day of Social Justice, take a look at our ongoing advocacy efforts and resources supporting Indian country.
Community Care
In times of uncertainty, SIHB remains steady in our commitment to community and we’re doing everything in our power to ensure our people live healthy successful lives. We provided food assistance resources in our clinics when federal benefits were in jeopardy. As part of the Heroes Carry Narcan campaign, UIHI sent hundreds of opioid overdose prevention materials across the country to our partner UIOs. We place Traditional Indian Medicine at the center of all we do, with services available at all 3 SIHB clinics. Thunderbird Treatment Center re-opens this year, creating a space for holistic healing grounded in cultural tradition. We are proud to do this work for love of Native people.
Advocacy & policy efforts
Our policy team has been hard at work, fighting for the rights of Native people nationwide and right here in Washington. We recently supported SB 6017, a state bill protecting survivors of sexual violence from being retraumatized in court. See the toolkit we created for the public to show their support for the bills passing here: https://www.sihb.org/2026/01/toolkit-support-survivors-sb-6017/.
(SB 6017 is in Senate committee at the time of publishing)
We remain committed to addressing the violence perpetuated against native women and people. SIHB Executive Vice President, Abigail Echo-Hawk (Pawnee), is a member of the State MMIWP Task force whose work helps shape state law. It’s essential we hold those in power accountable to address this crisis in urban Indian communities. Donate
The work we do would not be possible without the generous contributions of our community and partners. If you’re in a position to support our organization on a financial level, please consider donating to the Seattle Indian Health Board.
